Ponies Have Olympic Fever Too

Greetings from London everypony!  (Haha, I wish!)   Since there aren't any new episodes of MLP:FIM to watch over the summer, I've been keeping myself entertained with the 2012 Summer Olympics!

Sometimes during commercials my mind will drift away from the intense Phelps/Lochte rivalry, or the emotional trials of the Fab Five as they pursue gold...and I find myself gravitating back to...yup, you've guessed it...ponies!

Ever wonder what the Pony Olympics (or how about an even better name, The Equestrian Games) might entail?  Well not to worry everypony, you are not alone!  Here are a few cool Olympic/Pony themed pics I've come across in the last week.

Most of these were found on a Brony meme from the people who brought us Lolcats over at cheezburger.com.  Don't ask me what a meme is, I was just there for the pony pics!

Anyway, I hope you are all enjoying watching the Olympics as much as I have been.  And if not, at least there are a bunch of great MLP blogs out there for everypony to look at instead.  :)

Keep calm and pony on.

Blank Flanks vs Cutie Marks

I don't know about every other pony, but I just can't get enough of the little foals on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic!

These little ponies may have "blank flanks" but I think these three in particular are full of excitement and potential.  Their friendship, happiness, and youthful energy is a delight to watch and I hope to see them as centerpieces in episodes for the upcoming season!

I also thoroughly enjoy when Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo have to deal with their archenemies Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara!  They are the little ponies you just looove to hate!

I picked up a couple of MLP Trading Cards earlier today and was v.excited to see their card in the mix!

I hope they will get their own G4 toys soon!  It would make a very good double pack...hint, hint Hasbro!!

I wonder if we'll see one of the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally get their mark this season.  I guess we'll have to wait and see!!  Until then...Keep Calm and Pony On!

Spa Treatments!!!

Well I promised everypony an update on my lovely vintage girls' spa day, so here you go!  These ponies date back to 1983 & 1984, so they are way over due for some extra pampering!

You only need a few items: shampoo, conditioner, towels, paper towels, mini elastic bands, and a pony brush/comb.  Here I have posted several "before shots" so you can get a good idea of what the whole point of this mess is.

Wash your ponies and their lovely (or not so lovely as the case may be) hair in the sink.  Shampoo and condition.  You may want to leave the conditioner on there for a minute or two if your friend has a lot of tangles.  Then brush her hair while the conditioner is still soaking in.  This is how you will get the most knots/tangles free.  Then rinse thoroughly.  Towel dry.

Now get a few paper towels and tear up some smaller pieces. Gently wrap the mane around the neck.  Smooth hair.  Wrap the paper towel piece around the hair and secure with an elastic band.  Wrap the tail around one of your ponies legs and secure in a similar fashion.  A few articles I found on the blogosphere had people using curlers.
I didn't have any that were pony-sized, so I did try wrapping Parasol's tail around a chapstick and securing with a clip.  Allow your pony's hair to dry overnight.  Then gently unwrap and smooth out the hair.  You can see here what Lickety Split's tail looks like as it is getting unwrapped below.

And voila!!  The finished product!!  Some FABULOUS looking ponies!!  How easy was that?  These girls are all of a sudden looking better than ever!!  Try it with your own vintage ponies.  Or a newer pony that just needs a different hair style.  We've all seen a G4 pony or two whose tail doesn't look all that hot after you spent 15 min wrestling her out of the packaging.  Well no more my friends, no more! I'm def pleased with the finished results!  Here you can see the "after" shots!  Hope these tips help!

Keep calm and pony on!

What a bummer...

Hey everypony.  I'm sure you all already know, but there are a ton of great My Little Pony items on ebay both old and new!  Yesterday one particular item really caught my eye.  Now I've seen this pony before, but never brand new in the box!!  I placed an initial bid and then sat back to watch and wait.  I also went along with the rest of my day yesterday.  I started this blog, watched the opening ceremonies for the London Olympics, and got in a full night's sleep.  But first thing this morning, I ran down stairs, got some coffee going...and settled in for the exciting final moments of my ebay auction.  What was so special that I was bidding on you ask?  Well here she is...

A 1990's special edition pony bride, complete with cake, veil, and wedding ring.  Except as I mentioned before, the one I was bidding on was still brand new in her box!!  And the price was so reasonable.  A lot of vintage still in the box ponies are going for quite a pretty penny on ebay.

It was down to the last THREE seconds and needless to say, I lost the auction.  :(

The moral of the story here everypony, is to keep your eyes peeled...you can find a little piece of pony magic anywhere.  It doesn't matter if it's a brand new Royal Wedding item, or the elusive Derby Hooves sold exclusively at this year's San Diego Comic Con, or a blast from pony generations past.  But when you do find that pony with that little something extra that calls out to you - go ahead and do your best to snatch it up.  Who knows when you'll get another chance.

P.S. if anypony out there on the blogosphere happens to have one of these babies and would be willing to part with her, I'd be happy to give this cute little pony bride a new forever home!!

Keep calm and pony on!

Vintage Ponies

Good morning everypony!!  I thought it would be a nice way to start off the day by sharing some awesome, vintage MLP items from my personal collection.  These time-honored items not only survived my own childhood (but also the wrath of my younger sister), and were recently rescued from the depths of my parents' basement where they have been housed for 20+ years.  And if you ask me, they seem to have stood up pretty well to the test of time!

First off we have a classic vinyl carrying case stable. This carrying case let you bring six of your best pony friends with you wherever you went!  And of course, you didn't have to worry about their hair getting messed up during traveling, which is VIP to any serious pony owner.  The six ponies I have in my stable are as follows (from left to right): Blue Bell, Minty, Applejack, Lickety Split, Firefly, and Parasol.

I have recently read some helpful tips on washing and styling pony hair.  I may try this out later today between all the exciting Olympic events going on.  Don't worry everypony, I'll keep you posted and fill you in on styles and techniques, but until then...

Keep calm and pony on!

OOOhh, Baby Twilight Sparkle!!

Ever experience that awkward moment when you accidentally let it slip just how totally obsessed you are with My Little Ponies in front of everyone?

Now maybe this isn't such a big deal for everypony, but when you are in your thirties and celebrating the holidays with your new husband's extended family, it quickly becomes a whole other story.  Picture this, everybody's talking and having a nice time watching the kids opening all of their gifts.  Then all of a sudden one of the little munchkins opens up what seems like their 19th gift of the day and without warning you squeal out, "OOOhhh, Baby Twilight Sparkle!!!"

Of course, this happened to me.  And at a volume much louder than I originally intended.  The whole room seemed to go quiet and everyone slowly turned around to look at me like I've just sprouted 2 extra heads.

Well the toy turned out to be So Soft Sunny Daze and yup I ended up being more excited then the 5yr old that opened the gift.  Aaaand my husband's whole family saw that reaction.  Now I'm not embarrassed to watch the show every week and collect all things My Little Pony.  I just didn't want to announce it so emphatically at my new family's gathering.  Oh well, what can you do?  I can't help it if I love ponies!

Maybe this blog could double as a support group for other pony fans like myself.

Keep calm and pony on.

It begins...

Hey everypony!!  My name is Becky and I would describe myself as a big kid at heart.  Even though I'm all grown up now, one of my favorite things to do on the weekends is watch cartoons.  The highlight of my Saturday mornings would have to be checking out the newest episode of (you may have guessed it) My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic!

This new era of ponies is quite different from what I remember watching and playing with back in the 80's.  (Those are now called Generation 1 Ponies btw)  Of course, I realize that trends and fashions change over the years though and while I am a HUGE fan of the show today, I will forever hold a fond place in my heart for Lickety Split and the rest of the gang from the good old days.

This blog will chronicle my obsession with all things pony-related.  Keep calm and pony on!
