Well I promised everypony an update on my lovely vintage girls' spa day, so here you go! These ponies date back to 1983 & 1984, so they are way over due for some extra pampering!
You only need a few items: shampoo, conditioner, towels, paper towels, mini elastic bands, and a pony brush/comb. Here I have posted several "before shots" so you can get a good idea of what the whole point of this mess is.
Wash your ponies and their lovely (or not so lovely as the case may be) hair in the sink. Shampoo and condition. You may want to leave the conditioner on there for a minute or two if your friend has a lot of tangles. Then brush her hair while the conditioner is still soaking in. This is how you will get the most knots/tangles free. Then rinse thoroughly. Towel dry.
Now get a few paper towels and tear up some smaller pieces. Gently wrap the mane around the neck. Smooth hair. Wrap the paper towel piece around the hair and secure with an elastic band. Wrap the tail around one of your ponies legs and secure in a similar fashion. A few articles I found on the blogosphere had people using curlers.
I didn't have any that were pony-sized, so I did try wrapping Parasol's tail around a chapstick and securing with a clip. Allow your pony's hair to dry overnight. Then gently unwrap and smooth out the hair. You can see here what Lickety Split's tail looks like as it is getting unwrapped below.
And voila!! The finished product!! Some FABULOUS looking ponies!! How easy was that? These girls are all of a sudden looking better than ever!! Try it with your own vintage ponies. Or a newer pony that just needs a different hair style. We've all seen a G4 pony or two whose tail doesn't look all that hot after you spent 15 min wrestling her out of the packaging. Well no more my friends, no more! I'm def pleased with the finished results! Here you can see the "after" shots! Hope these tips help!
Keep calm and pony on!
